Apple released iOS 27.3 beta 1 today, with a surprisingly extensive set of new features and improvements across the system. One of them is the expansion of the iPhone Duo’s redesigned StandBy experience to other iPhone models. Here are the details.
iPhone Duo’s StandBy expands to other iPhones
When Apple announced the iPhone Duo, one of its exclusive new features was a redesigned StandBy experience with new clock faces and expanded customization options.
StandBy mode was introduced with iOS 17, and it essentially turns the iPhone into a smart display when placed horizontally while charging.
Until now, users of other iPhone models were limited to the original StandBy experience, which offered clock, widget, and photo views, but lacked the additional faces and more extensive customization options introduced with the iPhone Duo.
With iOS 27.3, however, Apple is extending the redesigned Analog and Digital Clock faces to other iPhones, with additional options for customizing their colors and complications. In addition to the new Calendar and Weather faces, the update adds support for Shared Albums to the Photos face, letting users choose which shared photos appear in StandBy.
Users with an iPhone 11 or later can now also create multiple versions of the same StandBy face, each with its own customization options, and swipe between them.
iOS 27.3 is expected to launch in December. To learn more about StandBy and how to customize its different faces, follow this link.
